About GDS Health

Hello, I'm Glyn David Smithson, a dedicated psychotherapist and clinical consultant with a deep passion for supporting individuals who maybe struggling with a plethora of things in this modern day. I have been working with mental health, alchohol, drugs, anxiety, depression and traumatic experiences, for over two decades.

Who We Help
We work with people who are stuck in patterns that no longer work – high-functioning individuals whose inner world is silently in crisis. You might look like you have it all together, but inside you feel anxious, exhausted, disconnected, or like you're always on edge. You might be using substances, sex, food, or overworking to cope. Or maybe you’ve hit a wall, and don’t know how to keep going.

We support people dealing with:

Addiction (chemical and behavioural – alcohol, substances, porn, work, etc.)
Anxiety, overwhelm, and burnout
Depression that doesn’t shift, even when life “looks fine”
Trauma – developmental, relational, or from specific events
Emotional shutdown or intense emotional swings
Difficulty forming or maintaining healthy relationships
Dual diagnosis: struggling with both mental health and addiction
Professionals, creatives, and caregivers who feel like they’re falling apart privately

1) How to Choose the Right Therapist (and Why GDS Might Fit)
A good therapist isn’t just about credentials—it’s about safety, fit and approach. At GDS Health you’ll be heard, respected and supported at your pace.

What therapy is best for me?
We tailor support using trauma‑informed therapy, somatic (body‑based) work, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and nervous‑system regulation for anxiety, low mood, addiction recovery and trauma.
Online or in‑person?
We offer both. Some prefer privacy and convenience online; others prefer in‑person presence. We’ll help you choose on a free consult.
How do I know it’s a good fit?
You should feel safe, understood and unpressured. We’re transparent, consistent and work collaboratively so you can decide with confidence.

2) Costs, Sessions and Practicalities
Fees
Fees vary by support needs; we’ll talk through options when you contact us.

3) Therapy Approaches at GDS—What They Mean
Somatic therapy (body‑based)
Stress and trauma live in the body. Somatic work helps regulate your nervous system and release what’s stuck—gently, at your pace.
IFS / Parts work
Understand inner protectors, critics and vulnerable parts. Build compassion and integration to reduce inner conflict and reactivity.
Nervous‑system regulation (polyvagal‑informed)
When your system settles, clarity, connection and choice return.
Who we support
Complex trauma, addiction and recovery, anxiety and overwhelm, low mood, attachment wounds and life transitions.

4) Safety, Confidentiality and Red Flags
Confidential and trauma‑informed
Your privacy, dignity and autonomy come first. We proceed gently and check in regularly.
If you feel uncomfortable
You can pause, slow down, ask questions or adjust approach anytime.
How to know therapy is helping
Signs include a calmer nervous system, clearer choices, steadier mood, better sleep and stronger boundaries. We review progress together.

5) Use AI/Online Search to Find the Right Therapist (Even If It’s Not Us)
Helpful searches
“trauma‑informed therapist near me,” “somatic therapist online UK,” “IFS therapist UK,” “addiction recovery counselling UK.”
Check reliability
Look for clear credentials, therapy approach, contact details, trauma‑informed practice and genuine testimonials.
First contact tip
Share briefly what you’re facing and what you hope for; ask about their approach and next steps.

6) What to Expect Working With GDS Health

A confidential conversation to understand your needs, safety and goals—no pressure, no performance.
How long does it take?
